Atlanta Medical Center Volunteer Requirements
NOTE: atlanta Medical Center has opened its doors to volunteering as of Fall 2022. There will be a separate application released in september 2022 for volunteers. There will be additional training due to Current Conditions.
- You must be 18 or older.
- You must commit to volunteering for 4 hours per week for at least 6 months or 100 hours, whichever comes first!
- You must complete and pass the volunteer application, interview, and background check. You must submit all required forms.
- You must complete the in-person orientations.
- You must wear your badge and uniform at all times during your volunteer shift.
- You can purchase your uniform at AMC's uniform store.
- You must provide proof of your vaccinations, flu shot, and TB test.
SHC REQUIREMENTS:
- You must complete at least 21 hours of volunteering each semester after your first semester on SHC. If you start volunteering at the middle of the semester AND this is not your first semester on SHC AND are worried you will not be able to make the 21 hours , please email SHC at [email protected].
- You must adhere to the hospital's policies and remain in your department.
- If you need to be absent from a shift, please inform your volunteer coordinator at
WellStar AMC well in advance and follow their communication policies. - Members who do not communicate adequately and complete their volunteer hours will be placed on the blacklist in subsequent semesters.
Step #1: Attend the SHC General Orientation & Fill out THE Online Membership Application
It is mandatory for all new members to attend the SHC General Orientation. The orientation will last approximately an hour and provide details about SHC and volunteering opportunities at WellStar's Atlanta Medical Center and Emory Winship Hospital/Proton Therapy Center. Then, you must fill out the SHC membership application posted on our home page, GT Engage page, and on social media (Facebook and Instagram).

Next, you will fill out the linked google form to express your interest in volunteering at WellStar AMC. This will be a first-come, first-served basis for 15-20 students.
Only after receiving an email from SHC, you may begin the hospital application process!

- You must pay your dues.
- Submit your SHC waiver (found below).
- Sign up for the notion page and the membership portal.
Next, you will fill out the linked google form to express your interest in volunteering at WellStar AMC. This will be a first-come, first-served basis for 15-20 students.

Step #2: FILL OUT THE ONLINE VOLUNTEER APPLICATION
Fill out AMC's volunteer application. Start as soon as possible and do not delay! Somewhere within your application, please make sure you make note that you are a member of Student Hospital Connections at Georgia Tech. The volunteer coordinator at AMC will have a list of SHC members who will be applying and will know to cross-check her list before continuing. This will help with expediting the process! Once you have submitted your application, please proceed with the next step of submitting the forms.

STEP #3: FILL OUT THE PHYSICAL PAPERWORK AND ACQUIRE OTHER REQUIRED FORMS
To expedite the process, the Hospitals Coordinator will deliver all the forms after the students place them in a sealed envelope with their name, phone number, year, and major.

- Medical Release Form - Please meet with your physician or go to Stamps to complete this document.
- COVID-19 Vaccination Card - Use campus resources or PDF scanner apps to xerox or print proof of COVID-19 vaccinations.
- Background Check - Please sign the front and back of this document.
- Immunization Record - You can use the same document that you submitted to Georgia Tech during the time of admission.
Step #4: INTERVIEW WITH THE VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR
Come at least 15 minutes early to your interview. These interviews aren't terribly formal, but be sure to dress business casual. Each interview should last about 30 minutes. Make sure to complete and bring the following required documents to your interview if you didn't submit them to the volunteer coordinator beforehand. Failure to do so may delay your application process.

Ultimately, the coordinator's goal is to get to know you so she can place you in a department where she believes you will grow! Please be honest, polite, and reflective of Georgia Tech and Student Hospital Connections. You will also learn about the requirements and benefits of being a volunteer at AMC.

Step #5: AMC HEALTH SCREENING
The AMC volunteer coordinator will give you contact information to schedule your health screening after your interview. Start as soon as possible to avoid delays.
Step #6: ORIENTATION
There will be a separate orientation for Georgia Tech SHC students for volunteering after you are selected as a volunteer. When this date is released and it does not work with your schedule, you will be expected to schedule an orientation session with another cohort.
During orientation, you will learn about the hospital policies and procedures, and their confidentiality and volunteering agreements. Attending orientation is extremely important. The volunteer coordinator will provide you with the AMC Badge Form during orientation. You might be able to pick up your AMC volunteer badge during the orientation. If not, you will need to come back to AMC to pick up your volunteer badge prior to your first day of volunteering. To visit the Badge Office, appointments are not necessary. The office is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM. Note these hours might change due to COVID-19. Please confirm with the volunteer coordinator and plan your visit accordingly. On your badge, please make sure it shows that you are up-to-date on your flu shot. If you will be driving to your volunteering shifts and need parking validation, please inform the volunteer coordinator during orientation!
